Meet Our Dermatology Physician Assistant, Holly Carter

Holly Carter, an upstate South Carolina native, is a Board Certified Physician Assistant with over 8 years of clinical experience in dermatology. Holly graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Biology.  During her four years at the University of South Carolina, she spent her free time volunteering at medical clinics in the area. Holly’s passion for medicine led her to pursue a career in the field of medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina where she received her Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies in 2005.  Shortly after graduation, Holly joined our practice and was personally trained in dermatology and dermatologic surgery by Dr. Germain prior to starting her own clinic. 

Holly is committed to providing excellent care to her patients in all aspects of dermatology.   She treats various skin conditions as well as performing yearly full skin exams and surgeries.  She thinks that patient education is an important aspect of dermatology and takes the time to make sure her patients understand their treatment options and plans.   Holly expands her knowledge and stays up to date on treatments of dermatologic conditions and treatments through self-study, specialized training, and dermatology conferences.  Holly also lectures to other local health care providers in hope to increase the awareness of skin cancer, common dermatology conditions and sun protection.   

Holly is an active member of her community and her current professional memberships include:  

American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), South Carolina Dermatological Association (SCDA), South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants (SCAPA), and South Carolina Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SCSDPA). In addition to membership, Holly served as the student liaison for the SCSDPA for 3 consecutive years.

Holly resides in Mount Pleasant with her husband Dan and their two children Anabelle (3) and Brooks (1).  Holly enjoys running, fine cuisine, photography and her two cats and dog. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Meet Our Dermatology Physician Assistant, Louisa Floyd 

Germain Dermatology has expanded their team of qualified health care professionals with the addition of Louisa Floyd, certified Physician Assistant.
 
Louisa is a Charleston native, who attended Bishop England High School on Daniel Island. She graduated from Clemson University in 2007 with a BS in Psychology. After college, Louisa moved abroad to London where she lived for six months. During her time abroad, she visited 13 countries, studied various cultures and experienced many lifelong memories.
 
She returned home to Charleston and began working at Germain Dermatology as a Medical Assistant. After two years working with Dr. Germain, Louisa enrolled in the MUSC Physician Assistant Program. While in school, she trained with Dr. Germain during her clinical rotations. 
 
Now a certified Physician Assistant, Louisa has returned to Germain Dermatology with more than 4 years of experience, not only in the field, but hands on with Dr. Germain and her staff.  Louisa said, "As an MA at Germain, I looked forward to going to work every day.  We have so much fun here and love all of our patients.  The staff is great –it’s like working with your best friends every day.”
 
She believes that dermatology is a unique area of medicine because it not only affects physical health, but it can also significantly impact someone’s self-esteem and social interactions. She also hopes to bring awareness to the seriousness of skin cancer, and the importance of yearly full skin exams. 
 
Louisa currently provides any and all dermatological care to her patients and assists Dr. Germain with surgical procedures.
 
Louisa is an active member of the South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants (SCAPA), the South Carolina Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SCSDPA), the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA).
 
Outside of work she spends time with her husband, Jeff, and dog, Walker, in West Ashley. She enjoys cheering on her alma mater, the Clemson Tigers, traveling and being with friends and family.
 
Meet Our Laser Specialist, Lauren Whitehead 
 


Lauren is a Charleston native and has spent the last 30 years in beautiful Mount Pleasant, SC. She has always been drawn to skin care and loves helping people achieve their goals. After becoming a certified Laser Technician/Specialist, Lauren continues to advance in her field and currently specializes in Ultherapy and CoolSculpting. To fulfill her love of learning, she often attends conferences and continues her education. She strives to discover the most innovative ways to help her patients achieve their personal best. 

Aside from her professional life at Germain Dermatology, Lauren, enjoys time with her two children and husband of 15 years. Being a Charlestonian at heart, she loves fishing (especially throwing a cast net), hiking and traveling. 

Lauren is a Member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. She states, “I love dermatology because I can give natural results that make you look younger, healthier, and not overdone. It is rewarding for patients to see results with their own eyes and to help them look and feel their best.”
